Ms. Addie James, Guest Artist

In January, Ms. Addie James, a folk artist from Statesville, gave a guest lecture to the 5th and 7th graders. Ms. Addie, as she likes to be called, discussed her background and the ways in which culture shapes her paintings. She led Woodlawn students in an art-making session centered around the theme "Portraying Your Community." Ms. Addie's whimsical portraits of children are displayed in the spring at Merrill-Jennings Gallery in Davidson. We appreciate the way Ms. Addie shared her time and talent with us.
