On February 13, the sixth grade class traveled to Knead-It! Bakery to learn more about running a small business. Owner Leslie Mann walked the students through the basics of starting a business such as determining percent markup and profit margin, setting the inventory, and calculating the overhead. In addition to completing a business simulation in class, Mr. Mann offered the students the opportunity to test out these concepts in the real world. In two teams, the students will develop a product to market and sell at the bakery. The goal is to buy inexpensive raw materials, assemble a good, determine the profit margin, and then market the goods at the bakery. Look for Woodlawn student products coming soon to Knead-It! Bakery!
