Woodlawn 6th/7th/8th graders were privileged to listen to a presentation by Erik Weihenmayer, a world-class mountaineer and adventure athlete, at Davidson College. Erik stunned the world in 2001 when he achieved what many said was an impossible feat by becoming the first blind climber to reach the top of Mt. Everest. He again made national headlines last year when he completed a seven-year quest to summit the top peak on each of the seven continents. Although his accomplishments speak for themselves, they also reveal a lot about his spirit, courage, and determination to overcome his disability. Erik is a great motivator and a living example that there are no limits to the human spirit. To find out more about Erik, his book Touch the Top of the World, and his new documentary film, Farther Than The Eye Can See, visit his website.
