On February 10, the 2nd/3rd grade visited Home Depot to learn about floor and wall coverings for their integrated math and art project in which they design a scale model of a dream room. Students reviewed concepts of area and perimeter as they looked at wallpaper and wallpaper borders and estimated how much they might need. Students paid careful attention to the units that the price of flooring was given in, such as square feet and square yards. They also examined paint colors to choose good color schemes for their thematic rooms. The students then returned to decorate their model room using ideas from the trip.
