Sixth Grade Math
Business Simulation Project

Archived Events

As part of a 6th grade math project on small businesses, students were challenged by Leslie Mann, owner of Knead-It! Bakery, to design and create a product to be sold at the bakery. The two teams learned about how to buy raw materials and determine a percent markup for their product. Students then sold stock in their company to raise capital to purchase supplies. Products go on sale March 11 at Knead It! Bakery in Davidson.

One of the companies is named "Clover Cauldrons." This team worked to design a "pot of gold" to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. The hand-painted pots contain gold-wrapped candies as well as unique fortunes written by the team members. Their product is priced at $1.50. Justin L., company leader, says, you "don't have to spend a fortune to get your fortune!" They hope for high sales this week with St. Patrick's day coming up soon.

The other company is called "Psych-egg-delic." Their products are hand-painted giant Easter egg that contain close to fourteen different pieces of candy. The eggs contain many bright colors and interesting "psychedelic" patterns. The eggs cost $4.00, which one team member noted was a great price for the variety of candy provided. Kathleen E., company leader, says the best part about the eggs is that they are "fun, colorful, and handcrafted." They hope to appeal to the early Easter shoppers and those who really like candy.

Supplies are limited, so stop by Knead-It! Bakery to purchase your items today!
