6th Grade Night Life Campout | |
| Archived Events |
The sixth graders braved the wilds of Woodlawn's campus for an entire night on October 1, 2004 as they explored the nightlife of nocturnal animals. Mrs. Nancy Popkin of Davidson led the group on a quiet night hike through Woodlawn¹s forest trails guided only by the light of the moon! The group used soft steps to navigate the trails and to listen for night sounds. Mrs. Popkin also demonstrated how color vision fails us (and other woodland creatures) without proper light. Back at the barn, we listened for bats and owls. Although they did not have the luck of hearing any owls, students had a good time showing off the hoots that they learned in class. After exploring the woods, students gathered around the campfire to roast marshmallows and make s'mores. And, to wrap up the evening, the students watched A Bug's Life on an outdoor movie screen before zipping up for the night in their tents. The students woke up on Saturday with a greater appreciation for the life of the nocturnal animals that live in their Class Study Area. |
