5th graders Brooke P. and Rebecca K. were honored for their outstanding writing in the 2008 Letters About Literature competition. Rebecca was a semi-finalist in the contest, which attracted 1,483 North Carolina entries and over 59,000 entries nationwide. Brooke was one of four North Carolina Level I Honorable Mention Winners. She wrote a letter to an author who inspired her to think differently about the world after reading his book. Brooke wrote to Schim Schimmel, author of Dear Children of the Earth.
