The 6th grade students took the City bus to Charlotte and spent the day identifying defining characteristics of architectural styles, applying what they have been studying in art class. They did a series of detail drawings of the historic Episcopal church and a unique perspective drawings of skyscrapers. They also met and viewed the work of artists Sharif Bey (identity/ceramics), Rob Carter (architecture/photography/animation) and Nava Lubelski (fiber art) at the McColl Center. Then they visited the library to view the Smithsonian exhibit: Our Stories, Our Journeys. This exhibit focuses on well-known Hispanic Americans and their contributions to our society as part of their Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15- Oct. 15) study. |
