9/11 Memorial Ceremony

Archived Events

911_mayor On September 11, 2002, we attended the "Together We Remember" ceremony at Marshall Park in Charlotte. This free event for the public was designed to give people of all ages the opportunity to honor those who died in the attacks in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. The ceremony featured the reading of the list of names of people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, musical selections, a military fly-over, and comments by government and community leaders. A two-foot long piece of steel girder from one of the World Trade Center towers was on display and placed at Marshall Park as a monument in remembrance of the tragic events and hope for the future. Woodlawn School students also visited Station 1 Firehouse in Charlotte that day. They interviewed the firefighters to learn more about their job and gather insight on their personal reflections of 9/11.
