Woodlawn students have adopted a section of Little Sugar Creek in north Charlotte as part of Charlotte-Mecklenburg's Adopt-a-Stream program. This program is an effort by citizens who want to improve the quality of water in our area. In November, we collected about 500 pounds of trash, including some very interesting pieces, such as plastic lawn furniture and a lawn mower! It was hard work, but it definitely gave us all a good feeling that, by working together, we can make a difference. In May, we visited the stream again and found less trash and a slightly higher water level from the recent spring rains. We will continue to monitor the stream and do periodic clean-ups.
