Coverboard Project

In February, students from the Davidson Herpetology Lab helped us lay several dozen coverboards on campus. Coverboards provide an artificial, yet suitable microhabitat for many amphibians and reptiles. The locations of the boards were recorded using a GPS device. We concentrated the boards in "edge habitats", areas where the forest meets an open space. Under the Lab's direction, we periodically check under the boards for snakes, salamanders, lizards, and similar species.
