Declaration of Independence Road Show

declaration2 "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Woodlawn School students had the opportunity to reflect on the historical significance of the Declaration of Independence as they viewed one of 25 rare copies of this document at the Charlotte Museum of History this fall. The Declaration of Independence is taking a 3 year road trip across the country to bring the "People's Document" directly to all Americans to inform young citizens of their civic duty and inspire them to exercise their rights and vote. Woodlawn students created their own parchment paper, sketched self-portraits, and drafted their own thoughts on what this 200 year-old document means to them.
