After learning about the properties of magnets and electromagnetic waves in science, we had the opportunity to visit the radiology department of NorthEast Medical Center in Concord. Dr. Sheafor was there to explain the science and technology of the MRI and x-ray machine to us. We were able to witness the actual Magnetic Resonance Imaging take place and to compare the MRI, which uses radio waves, to x-rays. We also had the opportunity to tour other parts of the hospital, such as the library, pediatrics, and emergency room. The pediatrics department would appreciate donations of some items they could use to make hospital stays more comfortable. If you have any appropriate items (such as G or PG rated VHS videos, coloring books, toys, etc.), please bring them to the school and we will pass them along.
