| Archived Events | One of the most important tools that we provide to students is access to functional, state-of-the-art technology that they can use in all of their classes. Students use these tools not only to learn basic skills like word processing and spreadsheet manipulation, but also to master more challenging tasks such as digital photography/videography, web page authoring, and in-depth internet research. ![]() At the heart of our technology infrastructure is a wireless network covering all classrooms on the campus. This means that a student can use one of our notebook computers in any class (or even outdoors) without worrying about plugging any wires into the wall. Our network is connected to the internet via a high-speed, always-on connection. A high-quality printer is also available in each classroom. Our notebook computers are Macintosh MacBooks, running the latest Mac operating system (10.5, also known as Panther). These computers are light and easy to transport to different classrooms - but they are also powerful enough to play DVD discs and edit digital video and music into an custom-made movie. So instead of dedicating a single room as a "computer lab", we simply move the lab (or portions of it) to the classroom that needs it. When you combine small, powerful notebook computers with wireless, high-speed internet access, suddenly a world of new possibilities opens up for enhancing the educational experience. Teachers now post assignments, project requirements, and supporting material on our website, so that students can access it anytime - from school or their own homes. Teachers also can easily integrate internet material into their classroom by using a notebook/projector combination. Students are routinely exposed to more interesting learning opportunities - from online competitions with other schools to watching live video from the International Space Station. |
