The Trailblazers opened the new year with a hard-fought victory over "A" League rival Hickory Day on our home court. Michael L.'s solid guard play overcame a tenacious full-court press by the visiting team, and Woodlawn never trailed on the scoreboard throughout the final three quarters of the game. In the opening quarter, the Trailblazers successfully worked the ball into big man Eric B., who rang up 7 of his team's 9 points in the quarter. Eric, however, picked up his 3rd foul in the second quarter, prompting Coach Merrell to rely on Austin D., Will T., and Rudy M. for some quality minutes in the post during the second half. Woodlawn led 19-16 at halftime and extended the lead to 28-19 by the start of the fourth quarter. Hickory Day put up a flurry of 3-point shots in the last quarter to get close, but key rebounding by Tyler W, Curt B., and Collin B. sealed the victory for the Trailblazers.
