Woodlawn broke into the win column in late January when they defeated Hickory Day School 21-17 in another close, hard-fought contest. The Trailblazers were coming off a string of extremely tight games (including one overtime contest) that ended in defeats, as they routinely faced teams that were taller, deeper, and more experienced. This game was no exception - only 6 players made the trip to Hickory, and things looked even more grim when Tyler W. fouled out early in the third quarter. But the 'blazers didn't panic - with a 2-point lead going into the final period, they continued to show great ball movement and solid defense. Led by outstanding guard play, Woodlawn hung on to win by a 4-point margin.
Coach Merrell was complimentary of his team's play, citing the improvement of Curt B. and strong effort by Eric B. as big factors in the win. The team has 2 more home games and 3 road games left on their regular season schedule.
