Woodlawn runners opened the cross country season on a hot September afternoon at Southside Park in Newton, NC. Having lost three of the top four runners from last season, Coach Blackwell was seemingly facing a rebuilding year. The boys team came through, however, with an impressive victory in their first meet, keeping their two-year winning streak alive. Woodlawn 7th grader Sawyer B. led for much of the race, but was passed by the top St. Stephens runner with less than one-half of a mile to run. With a strong kick, he returned the favor, nipping the St. Stephens runner at the finish line by less than one second. 7th graders Byron D., Chris A., and Davis J. ran a strong race as a pack, finishing in the top 7 to secure the win for the Trailblazers.
