Teams are composed of 7 runners - boys and girls are scored separately. Courses are 5 km (3.1 miles) in length. Meets are scored by adding the top 5 finishing positions for each team (lower score wins).

To earn a varsity letter, a runner must:
- post a C average or above on Fall Trimester report card
- attend an average of at least 3 practices per week for the entire season
- finish four 5K meets during the season
