Dorothy Counts was involved in a powerful event that changed the lives of the students that witnessed her treatment. The students saw her mistreated 52 years ago, and later in life, they still remember it. Counts reached their soul, and they made different decisions later in life because of it.
“Since [September 4, 1957] Charlotte has become a major American city, known nationally for its diversity. This would not have been possible if Dorothy Counts had not stepped forward to strike the conscience in our community.”
-Sam Smith
