Mar. 30, 2015 - Woodlawn vs. United Faith  W 4-1

Woodlawn hosted conference opponent, United Faith, on Monday afternoon. With 6 players sidelined due to injuries and illnesses, Woodlawn was only able to field 9 players for the game - taking on United Faith's best 11. Despite competing with two fewer players on the field and zero substitutes, Woodlawn owned the majority of possession, had more energy, and created the better chances. In the end, the 'Blazers earned an impressive and decisive 4-1 victory, bringing their record on the year to 3-3-1 (3-1-0 in conference play).

After falling down 0-1 in the first half on a defensive miscue, Woodlawn bounced back when Rebecca C. sliced through the United Faith defense before being brought down in front of the goal by the last defender. The play resulted in a penalty kick that Rebecca confidently put in the goal to draw the score even. Woodlawn got the go-ahead goal from senior Hannah G. before halftime. Hannah was seeing her first action of the season, and she was spectacular for all 80 minutes.

The second half was all Woodlawn. Rebecca C. got her second goal of the match, her fifth in the last two games, when she beat the keeper off of a corner kick. The fourth and final goal came from Rachel C. who beat three United Faith defenders before curling in a beautiful shot from long range.

Celeste C. and Rachel N. were superb in their play on the wings, and defenders Mills K. and Taylor S. anchored a great defensive effort. The 'Blazers return to their home field on Tuesday, March 31, for their last action before Spring Break. They take on a tough conference opponent in Carmel Christian at 4:30 PM.

Mar. 10, 2015 - Woodlawn at Pine Lake Prep  L 1-2

Woodlawn's varsity girls soccer team ended on the losing side of a close contest with Pine Lake Prep on Tuesday evening, with the final score 2-1. Pine Lake Prep got on the board early with a goal in the first 15 seconds of the match. The goal put Woodlawn on its heels, and a few minutes later, PLP made it 2-0.

After the wake up call, the Trailblazers bounced back and began to exercise control of the match. Captains Clare Robinson, Rachel Coutinho, and Rebecca Coutinho led the comeback effort and created many good scoring opportunities. Clare R. finally got Woodlawn on the board when she finished off a great pass from Rachel C. before halftime. It was Clare's second goal in as many games.

Despite continued pressure in the second half, Woodlawn could not get the equalizer. Lexi Navarro was dangerous throughout the game, hitting the crossbar in the waning moments. It was a tough loss, but the team continues to set a strong foundation for the season.

Mar. 4, 2015 - Woodlawn at Davidson Day  T 1-1

The Woodlawn girls' soccer team played its first game of the season on Wednesday, March 4, earning a 1-1 tie against Davidson Day. With only 3 days of practice under their belts, it was hard to know what to expect, but the 'Blazers took the field with spirit and determination.

Despite dominating play and creating more scoring chances, Woodlawn went down 1-0 in the second half on a long-range effort from a Davidson Day defender. The Blazers bounced back, however, and scored the equalizer only minutes later when Clare R. beat the keeper after a great through pass from Lexi N. Woodlawn continued to pressure Davidson Day until the 80th minute, but could not manage the go-ahead goal.

Elia R. was solid as the goalie for Woodlawn, anchoring a very good defensive effort. Additionally, 8th graders Connors A., Carly B., and Emma M. were outstanding in their varsity debuts.
