What makes us stand out
A progressive, unique learning environment = happy students!

Extraordinary Students
Our students are future leaders; they resolve conflicts, have a strong ecological foundation, respect diversity, and are committed to a sense of balance and wellness... all while maintaining a healthy dose of adolescent idealism.

61-acre Campus
Our 61-acre wooded, tranquil campus inspires learning.
The main house on the Woodlawn campus is a 2-story Planter's home built in 1836. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Community Partnerships
We partner with the community through service learning. Our students learn early on to think beyond oneself.
Our service program connects our students to the real world by instilling compassion and empathy.

Academic Challenge
Many of our upper school students desire the challenge of a college-level course. Our nine Advanced Placement classes fill that need, with the potential of college credit as well.

Multiple Opportunities
We offer opportunities in athletics, clubs, music, robotics — something for everyone. All students in all grades are strongly encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities.

Engaged Students
Our class sizes are small; teachers know their students.
Small, intimate classroom discussions where student participation is the norm helps students take risks and push themselves.

Global Education
We see our students as citizens of a diverse global society; our teachers help our students navigate the changing face of today's global community. Additionally, we've taken students on 14 international trips.

Meaningful Traditions
Our campus is naturally rich with history and so it makes sense that Woodlawn has developed its own traditions for both the younger and older students that are meaningful to our campus history and to our student body.

College Counseling
Our 142 graduates have matriculated to an amazingly diverse list of colleges from Maine to California. The number of highly selective colleges on that list is compelling evidence of the strength of Woodlawn's program.
Our success stories speak for themselves
We are proud to have a diverse group of alums; we consider them the real measure of how we're doing.

Firstly, Woodlawn provided a top notch education by constantly pushing us academically and simultaneously instilling students with a love of learning. Because of this, the transition into college-level work was much smoother than I had expected. But beyond academics, because of its size and close-knit community, Woodlawn really helped me develop a personal confidence and sense of self that I couldn’t have gotten at another institution. (Graduated May, 2015 with a BS in Computer Science) -
Paulina Campbell '12, Grinnell College '16, Employed at Imagination Stage
Woodlawn taught me to challenge myself and always put in my best effort. Both inside and outside the classroom, I had chances to push myself and achieve more than I thought I could. I also learned to communicate well, both orally and in writing, and how to manage my time so that I could participate in all the opportunities Woodlawn offered. -
Sawyer Bowman '11, Bowdoin College '15, Employed at Uber
The environment at Woodlawn filled me with the desire to be the best I could possibly be, regardless of what I choose to do. I think this enthusiasm and zeal for learning has enabled me to develop meaningful relationships and find success wherever I go. (Graduated May 2015 with a BA in Computer Science and Spanish and a minor in Chemistry) -
Lachlan Johnson '13, St. Louis University '17, Employed at Wells Fargo
Woodlawn prepared me for college and the world beyond by teaching me things that no text book ever could. While I am very thankful for the extensive academic knowledge I gained during my 7 years at Woodlawn, I am even more grateful for the values instilled in me which I will carry for the rest of my life. Not only am I confident in what I am capable of achieving academically, but in the person I have become. -
Zack Scott '13, Rice University '17, Employed at Ullico
Woodlawn prepared me in a number of ways, but I’d have to say that the writing at Woodlawn set such a high standard that it has helped me the most at Rice. -
Dana Neidinger '12, Carleton College '16, PhD Program at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
I always am doing my homework and saying, you know, Woodlawn helped me to get here. For example, I'm trudging through some really dense philosophy reading and I just think about how we were always encouraged to actively read. It's helping me so much. -
Forrest Daugherty '12, Princeton University '17, Employed at Credit Suisse Bank NY
Woodlawn has given me the opportunity to pursue my passion. I was introduced to rowing, and the school gave me space to keep my rowing machine and has been nothing but supportive ever since. Now I’m rowing for Princeton University, largely due to the training I was able to do at Woodlawn. -
Cassidy Coutinho '12, Belmont Abbey College '16, Employed at Willis Towers Watson
Two hours into a four hour car trip I put my knowledge of how to change a car tire to the test after my friends and I drove over a nail on the highway. Shout out to our Woodlawn Life 101 class! -
Greg Conn '11, Furman University '15, Employed at Carolina Center for Behavorial Health
Woodlawn allowed me to build very close friendships and pushed me to the limit with work. A combination of both of these things prepared me greatly for the challenges in college. (Graduated May, 2015 with a BA in Health Sciences) -
Sayre Weir '11, Middlebury College '15, Employed at Woodlawn School
Woodlawn taught me how to be a strong, critical writer, how to balance academics and extracurriculars, the importance of service, and it gave me the opportunity to travel and see the world through its unique International Travel Program. However, most importantly, Woodlawn inspired me with a love of learning that will serve me both in college and the world beyond. (Graduated May, 2015 with a BA Latin American Studies) -
David Keener '13, Appalachian State '18
The writing instruction I received at Woodlawn was extremely valuable in my freshmen level English and chemistry classes. -
Sydney Bowman '14, Occidental College '18, Fulbright Scholar Madrid, Spain
I am most appreciative of the instruction I received in my AP classes; I was able to enter Occidental with sophomore status which means I have a lot more freedom to take classes I probably wouldn't have had time to take otherwise, like phonology... just because. -
Sophia Spach '11, Elon University '15, Employed at L-Arche, England
Woodlawn taught us how to be lifelong learners through both academics and extra curricular activities. I felt very prepared for college and in some cases my classes in college were easier than Woodlawn, which was great. (Graduated May, 2015 with a BA in Human Service Studies) -
Kathleen Elkins '10, Williams College '14, Employed at CNBC (NYC)
Woodlawn taught me to be comfortable in my own skin, to embrace creativity and to constantly challenge myself. In addition to being prepared academically heading into Williams College, I was prepared to thrive socially, balance my academic life with a demanding tennis schedule, and know how to approach and communicate with peers and professors. (Graduated May 2014 with a BA in Spanish) -
Mary Rood Cunningham '14, Davidson College '18, Employed at Atlantic Media
Woodlawn's rigorous curriculum best prepared me for college by teaching me how to stay organized and having a good work ethic. This has helped me balance my work at Davidson with my extracurricular activities. Woodlawn also prepared me by giving me the confidence to talk in class and ask questions. It's much easier for me to attend office hours since I am used to having such close relationships with my teachers at Woodlawn.
