Booster Club 2020 Fall Update
I am sitting on the patio outside the Red Barn next to Woods Hall (wearing my mask obeying the social distance protocols). It is a picture-perfect fall day, sun is shining, grass is cut, it is just beautiful on the Woodlawn campus! Like the start of school there is an excitement “a buzz” to be back on campus. The administration in conjunction with the Woodlawn Athletics Department (leaders & coaches) have done a fabulous job in preparing our student athletes, both high school & middle school, for competition by having safe, healthy protocol driven practices on campus! Our student athletes are following these protocols with a laser focus and have great faith that safe - healthy competition will be a reality.
Our newly appointed 2020-21 Woodlawn Athletics Advisory Committee & Booster Club (see new members below) is committed this year more than ever to support our school and community in spirit & wellness for body, mind, and soul! We strive to support Woodlawn in producing excellence among our student athletes. We have a strategic plan this year, even with COVID, to enhance this mission more than ever. With an emphasis on growing attraction for Woodlawn, we have begun this strategic plan with a huge success.
Woodlawn student athletes, late September and into October, have safely executed competition with partner schools in HS & MS Cross Country, HS & MS Soccer, and HS & MS Volleyball with phenomenal results and by competing hard, striving for excellence on the courts, fields, and courses. We have already delivered COVID safe bag lunches for the away soccer and volleyball trips to Westchester Day School and we are in the final stages of setting up our live streaming platform for all home games. This will be our online sports broadcasting- completely free to all members of the Woodlawn Community; (Parents, Students, Faculty, Administration, Alumni, Grandparents, and everyone that is friends or associated with Woodland social media) WOW! This is huge for Woodlawn!!!
The Woodlawn Booster Club is poised and positioned this year to bring many fantastic “outside the box” student-athlete attractions to the Woodlawn community. We will partner with many college level athletic clubs to do community showcases and leadership seminars, we will bring NBA level talent on campus to lead clinics, and support growth in both our ladies and boys basketball programs starting at lower school. We plan to offer frisbee golf tournaments on campus, extend invites to yoga and work out clubs to use our campus for outdoor workouts, and we will try, once again, to host the 1A/2A outdoor NC State Track & Field Championships with many more great ideas to support our school in healthy growth.
Wishing you a safe and healthy Fall 2020.
