Explorers Program for Ages Four and Five to Launch This Year
MOORESVILLE, N.C. – June 23, 2021 – Woodlawn School, an independent K-12 school noted for project-based learning and academic excellence, is launching a new early childhood development program - Woodlawn Explorers Preschool. Designed for children ages 4 and 5, Explorers Preschool embraces the Woodlawn “whole child” approach to learning, and making sure that its students are prepared socially and academically for kindergarten.
“The new program and its responsive classroom approach are natural extensions of all we do at Woodlawn,” said Holly Honeycutt, Woodlawn School Head of Lower School. “Explorers Preschool is all about creating a supportive environment that nurtures adaptive, respectful and emotionally intelligent young students who are eager and ready to learn."
Please meet the newest member of our team, Kevin Coale. Kevin will serve as Assistant Director of the Middle School working in conjunction with Holly Honeycutt.
We first met Kevin as a candidate for the Athletic Director position. Everyone who met him quickly realized he would be an excellent candidate for many roles at our school. He has fourteen years of experience teaching History, and his special passion is teaching Middle School students. He has served as a Dean of Students, directed International programs, led Capstone curriculums, and created Middle and Upper School Student Leadership curriculums focused on hands-on, student-led, “learning by leading,” experiential approaches to coaching and nurturing the multifaceted elements of leadership that benefit all children.
We are pleased to announce that Meghan Tally will join Woodlawn School as Upper School Director. Meghan comes to us from The Archer School in Los Angeles, where she has served as Upper School Director. At Windward School and at the American School in London, Meghan served in leadership positions such as Associate Division Head, Associate Director of Teaching and Learning, and Department Chair. She is an accomplished school leader and teacher of English, Language Arts and Humanities, bringing to Woodlawn twenty years of teaching excellence in lower, middle, and upper schools.
Meghan is a graduate of Harpeth Hall, an outstanding independent school located in Nashville. She earned her B.A. in English from Emory University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Meghan earned a Master of Arts in English from Boston University, where she was a Teaching Fellow under the supervision of US Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, and an M.A. in Independent School Leadership from Columbia University, where she was a Klingenstein Fellow.
We are excited to welcome Michelle “Shellee” Young as our new Athletic Director.
