Drew Hedrick '16 Named to NCISAA 1A All-State Soccer Team
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Woodlawn School senior Drew Hedrick, of Kannapolis, has been named to the NCISAA 1A Soccer All-State Team, as nominated by the NCISAA coaches. He is the only member of the All-State Team to hail from a school that did not qualify for the playoffs.
"This honor speaks volumes to his positive influence on not only our team, but on the teams and coaches we compete against," says Chris Van Amburgh, Woodlawn School boys Varsity soccer coach. “From the moment he joined the team, he has been a leader, on and off the field.” He added that Drew’s teammates named him captain of the soccer team in back to back years.
Drew also is a member of the Woodlawn School Track & Field Honor Roll for his achievements in the 400 meter, 200 Meter and 100 Meter races. He anchored the relay teams that hold school records in the 4 x 200 Meter and 4 x 100 Meter relays.
A student at Woodlawn for nine years, Drew has been a leader across campus in other ways, assisting the Athletic Director with events scheduling; and also developing a community speaker series. As a junior, he earned the Upper School Humanities Award last spring for his achievements in English, Spanish and History.
Drew is featured on the Woodlawn website explaining what he has appreciated most about Woodlawn: “Woodlawn teachers are always trying to provide us with hands-on learning experiences…. My teachers know who I am, how I learn, and they will do whatever they can to help me succeed.”
Drew will graduate in June 2016 to attend Wofford College next fall, and he will be missed greatly by the entire Woodlawn community.
Woodlawn is an independent school founded in 2002 and located just north of Davidson, North Carolina. Enrolling students in grades K through 12, Woodlawn is accredited by both the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and offers a challenging, project-based academic experience.
