Woodlawn Ranks #4 in NC 1A Schools: 2015-2016 Wells Fargo Cup Rankings
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Among the 30 schools in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) 1A division, Woodlawn School has earned fourth place in the 2015-16 Wells Fargo Cup competition.
The Wells Fargo Cup, presented and sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., recognizes overall excellence in high school athletics among NCISAA member institutions. As such, the cup has become the single most valued athletic achievement award in North Carolina. School rankings are determined by point totals earned through competition in state championships. Each school that finishes in the top eight of a state championship tournament receives Wells Fargo Cup points.
This year, Woodlawn ranked #4 with 287.5 points – well above the 205 points scored during 2014-2015, when Woodlawn placed eleventh. Woodlawn earned points this year in six different sports: boys cross country (50), girls cross country (50), boys swimming (47.5 points), girls swimming (50 points), boys track (45 points), and girls track (45 points).
This is only Woodlawn’s second year in the NCISAA, and already the school has earned four 1A state titles and placed 17 students on NCISAA All-State teams.
“Experiencing this success – so early in our NCISAA debut – stems from having such committed athletes, coaches, parents and administration,” says Vicky Arrington, Athletic Director at Woodlawn School, noting that 20% of Woodlawn’s student athletes compete in three sports, and 30% are dual-sport athletes. “We are all thrilled with the progress we have made this year and look forward to continued growth in the coming years.”

Woodlawn is an independent school founded in 2002 and located just north of Davidson, North Carolina. Enrolling students in grades K through 12, Woodlawn is accredited by both the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and offers a challenging, project-based academic experience.
