Student Publications
Publications at Woodlawn are student-driven and led by faculty advisors. We publish a yearbook annually, an online news outlet throughout the school year, and other publications, like print literary magazines, in response to student interest.
The Mighty Oak is the annual school yearbook. At 104 pages, the yearbook features thousands of photos of all students, K-12, and is distributed at the commencement ceremony in June every year. Students participate as editors, staff, photographers, writers, and designers. Students can take the yearbook elective in winter and spring trimesters. Editors, however, begin as apprentice editors in one year and gradually take over management of the design in the following year. Editors oversee theme and design. Students use Jostens online software to manage photos, set type, and design the pages. In 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2017, The Mighty Oak was recognized for its creative design by Jostens Look Book Design Competition.
Lighten Up! is the student news outlet. Over the years, it has been a website, newspaper, and blog. Currently, it's hosted on Tumblr at lightenupwoodlawn.tumblr.com. You'll find student articles, videos, podcasts, and photography here.
