Why Give
Why Does Woodlawn School Need My Support Every Year?
We need you to help make a difference in the lives of every student and faculty member. In a labor-intensive industry such as education, where student-to-teacher ratios are a competitive advantage, there are significant costs associated with having the best people working at Woodlawn. People are Woodlawn’s greatest asset – and its greatest expense. Salaries and benefits for faculty and staff make up approximately 75% of the budget.

Innovation and excellence are an investment.
We look to our alumni, parents, and friends to help offset the costs associated with the high-quality education that Woodlawn provides.

Brit & Judd Rothstein, 'Blazers Fund Co-Chairs
When we discovered Woodlawn, we knew that we'd found a place where our children would be nurtured and developed as both students and people. As fellow educators, we know firsthand the value created when students engage directly in their own learning and have ownership over their academic and personal development. We were drawn to Woodlawn's ability to be both proactive in its planning and also quick to meet a challenge or welcome and an opportunity. This agility is invaluable and requires financial resources. By contributing to the 'Blazer Fund we know that we are helping our school meet its mission as it meets the needs of our children.

Woodlawn provides a gift to our daughter every day: the love of learning. Between the natural setting, the engaging PBL curriculum, and the faculty that inspire her everyday, supporting Woodlawn through the 'Blazers Fund is our opportunity to further support this gift.

We discovered Woodlawn School in August 2016, less than a week before Alexa was to start 8th grade. Within days, we knew it was the right decision. Alexa embraced the learning environment immediately, connected with classmates and as parents we saw the teacher dedication to their students. Her classmates are true friends, her teachers are role models and mentors and Alexa has grown from an 8th grader trying to find her best self, to a confident and focused Upper School student and eagerly preparing to tackle college and real world next. Woodlawn School is special and allowed her to thrive in her own way, at her pace. This is why we contribute to the Blazer Fund.

Rebecca Coutinho '15, Graduate Student at the University of Stirling, Scotland
I attended Woodlawn from 6th-12th grade. In those years, I had the gift of being taught by such caring and dedicated teachers. I was able to form close-knit relationships with them that I know I would not have been able to form at a bigger school. It’s been almost five years since I graduated from Woodlawn, and I still go back to play pick up soccer with fellow students. I choose to donate to Woodlawn because they helped nurture me into the person I am today. I hope that every contribution I make to the school goes towards growing kids, who were just like me, into strong and confident adults ready to explore the world and make it a better place!
Rebecca is pursuing her Master's in Health Psychology. She is also a member of the university soccer league as well as the premier league in Scotland! -
Hampton & Colleen Hager
My wife and I chose Woodlawn for our two children for many reasons. The natural setting of the campus, the small class sizes, the challenging, project-based curriculum, and our school’s focus on service and service learning. All of these things help foster an intrinsic desire to learn within our students. Our youngest son attended Woodlawn for 10 years, graduated last year, and is now enjoying a successful first-year in college after being accepted at his first choice of colleges. Our oldest son attended Woodlawn for 5 years and graduated in 2014. After graduating from college, he went to work for a multi-national pharmaceutical research firm. Both of our children felt well-prepared for the next phases of their lives after graduating from Woodlawn. Our family knows that the success of Woodlawn each year is partially dependent on contributions to the Annual Fund. We are happy to play our part in securing the current and future success of this special place by making an annual contribution.

We are very appreciative that our kids are able to go to Woodlawn with some assistance from financial aid and want to give back as much as we can. -

I believe in educating the whole student and creating a conducive environment for children to thrive. My children have been fortunate enough to be a part of the Woodlawn community and understand the difference and benefit of the Woodlawn Way. Woodlawn has been unsurpassed in developing the type of education and experience that prepares students to be successful at every stage of their lives. -

We are honored to be a part of such a unique community, one where students can take risks to learn more about themselves. Being able to engage the faculty in ways that encourage critical thinking and deeper exploration of one's own thoughts is paramount to independence and future success. We are proud of the steps our student has made at Woodlawn and are very grateful for the experience. We are happy to support the 'Blazers Fund this year and beyond.
